The grenade consists of a rod with a steel fragmentation head.
The Hales rifle grenade is the name for several rifle grenades used by British forces during World War I. All of these are based on the No. 3 design. In theory this was supposed to make it more reliable than the No. 3 and the main problem of the design was the choice of explosive used.

There is pitting to the steel rod, its fuse is missing.

The grenade is 39 cm (15.25 inches) long with a head diameter of 3 cm (1.25 inches).
