This is a French model 1866 Chassepot sword bayonet with its scabbard.
This model was manufactured to be used with several rifles but it was initially designed for the M1866 Chassepot rifle.
The quillon guard is stamped “50180”.
The bayonet has the correct steel hooked quillon with muzzle ring, a ribbed brass grip with flat spring and steel push button.
It is complete with the correct scabbard made of black painted sheet steel.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade is 22 ½ (57 cm) long and the overall length of the bayonet is 27 inches (69 cm).
The length of the bayonet in its scabbard is 28 ¼ inches (72 cm).
It weighs 1 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade is clean and damage free.
The brass grip has some traces of wear, but not significant.
The spring safety button works fine.
The scabbard developed surface rust.
