This is a nice example of the French model 1866 Chassepot sword bayonet (See pages 84 and 92 plate 195 of The Bayonet Book by Watts & White). The steel single edged ‘T’ back Yataghan blade with fuller is clean and 22 ½” length. It has the correct steel hooked quillon with muzzle ring. It has a ribbed brass grip with flat spring and steel push button. The blade has small inspection marks. The cross guard is numbered ‘D3414’ on one side and ‘42185’ on the reverse. The back of the blade is marked with the name of the French Châtellerault Arsenal and dated ‘ July 1869' in French. It is complete with the correct steel scabbard. The scabbard has no dents and has its original fixed strap bar. The scabbard is stamped with matching number ‘D3414’ near to the throat. Price includes UK delivery. BAYO 151
