Although this piece has no visible German manufacturer marks it is of the quality and form of the type of WW1 era German made Turkish Army contract knives most likely issued to machine gun crew’s and would likely have been in service at Gallipoli. The knife has the appearance of a knife bayonet but no apparent means of fitting to a rifle. It has slab wood grips secured by rivets. The grips are undamaged. The knife measures 12" overall and has a 7 ¾” single edged blade with fullers. The blade has just light staining consistent with age. Its returning wave cross guard has what appears to be Turkish script characters on both sides. The knife is complete with its original steel scabbard which has a frog bar and ball end. The scabbard has no dents. The scabbard is fitted with its original brown leather frog with integral belt loop. The leather and stitching of the frog are intact.
