~ Gaulois (Gallic) No. 1 Palm Pistol Cal 8mm ~
This is a rare, highly collectable, compact squeeze-type palm pistol made by the Manuffacture de St. Etienne, made in the 1890s.
It held 5 rounds of 8mm ammunition (similar to the .32 Extra-Short used in other types of palm pistols) and was fired by squeezing the rear grip into the body of the gun.
There are a number of models (no.1 to 5), no. 1 being the less decorated piece.
The top of the barrel is stamped with a French inspector's mark and the name "Gaulois".
The top of the frame is stamped with the manufacturer's logo and Cal 8m/m.
The dust cover is stamped "No.1".
The left hand side of the frame is hosting the safety switch which features three positions: "S" (safe), "F" (fire) and "D" (disassemble).
The "D" position also allows the user to eject the five rounds if needed.
When the right side lockplate is removed the internals are revealed along with the serial number "8388" which is stamped both on the main frame and the removable plate, as seen in the pictures.
There are also a couple other stamps on the frame, number "8" and "TT".
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel is 4.3 cm long and the overall length of the piece is 13 cm.
It weighs 285 grams.
