George Hanson was an English Doncaster Yorkshire based gun maker recorded as having premises at 28 Baxter Gate Doncaster between 1857 and C1878. Revolving pepper box multi shot pistols were produced from the late 1820s and were designed for civilian use. They were made in numerous calibres. This is original bar hammer pepperbox is in .36" bore by George Hanson. The pistol has 6 x 3" barrels and measures 8 1/2" overall. The barrels are stamped with proof marks and have clean bores. The steel grip strap is marked by the manufacturer 'G. Hanson Doncaster'. The steel frame, bar hammer and trigger guard are lightly decorated with foliate engraving. The pistol has a quality finely chequered walnut grip inlaid with a void silver escutcheon. A nice example of a Victorian personal protection weapon. Price includes UK delivery.
