British Service Pattern 1800 .650 Calibre Flintlock Muzzle Loading Baker Rifle With Lock By Gill. Sn 18022 - 18022

The Baker rifle (officially known as the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle) was a flintlock rifle used by the Rifle Regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first standard-issue, British-made rifle accepted by the British armed forces. The Baker Rifle was first produced in 1800 by Ezekiel Baker, a master gunsmith from Whitechapel. The famous 95th Rifles, Light Infantry Regiments adopted these accurate rifles (the hit Napoleonic War, Book & TV series Sharpe's Rifles featured this pattern of rifle). This Baker rifle has all original wood work which has numerous period field repairs, figured cheek piece, correct brass furniture and bayonet bar. The underside of the wrist is inlaid with void brass escutcheon. Our example has open sights, steel ram rod & sling swivels. It measures 46” overall with a 30 ½” steel barrel. The bore has just staining consistent with age and use & crisp well defined rifling. The lock has Georgian Crown ‘GR’ (George Rex), inspection mark and ‘INo’ above ‘Gill’ (may be Thomas Gill of 22 Norfolk Street, Strand, who worked at the address from 1799 to 1805 or, alternatively, it may refer to one of his immediate successors elsewhere in London). The rifle cocks and dry fires as it should. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique muzzle loading flintlock no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 18022
