The Battle of Okinawa, codenamed Operation Iceberg, was a major battle of the Pacific War fought on the island of Okinawa by United States Marine and Army forces against the Imperial Japanese Army. The initial invasion of Okinawa was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. This is a post WW2 Commemorative Fairbairn Sykes form Etched FS Commando Dagger By H.G. Long & Co Sheffield one of a set of 6 commissioned by the American Historical Society to commemorate the Battle for Okinawa. This excellent full size dagger is in near mint condition. It has an undamaged plated alloy handle with smooth grip. It has an undamaged 176 mm double edged dagger blade with medial ridge. Both sides Of the blade are etched with panels highlighted in gold. On one side ‘In Honor Of The Battle For Okinawa’ together with Sea & Air invasion scene and ’17 May- 30 Jun 45’. The reverse has Tanks & American Soldiers in the field together with manufacturer detail and blade number ‘1312’(all illustrated). The dagger is complete with quality leather scabbard which is in excellent condition. It has an external brass chape and belt loop with retaining strap and press stud fastener.
