Cased, Late 1800’s American Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Company 1871 Patent ‘Mountain Eagle’ Factory Nickel Plated .32 Rim Fire 5 Shot Single Action Pocket Revolver Retailed By GW Turner & Ross Boston (G.W.T & R) With Gutta Percha Grips & Accessories - 17717

Hopkins and Allen were a Norwich Connecticut based American arms manufacturing company. This ‘Ranger No.2’ is one of many revolvers based on S&W and Colt Patents produced in the 1860’s through to the late 1870s with dynamic or quirky names to attract sales. From 1870 through to 1890 Hopkins & Allen made .32RF revolvers designated ‘Mountain Eagle’ for GW Turner & Ross (G.W.T & R), a large retailer located in Boston USA (the pistols were advertised in their 1883 catalogue priced at $2.75). This is an excellent example of the Hokins & Allen ‘Mountain Eagle’ revolver retailed by G.W.T & R. The pistol’s steel frame, barrel and cylinder retain their original factory nickel plated finish. It has a 2 ¾” octagonal barrel (7” overall). The bore is clean with crisp rifling. The top of the frame is crisply marked by the retailer ‘G.W.T & R’ and with designation ‘Mountain Eagle’. The barrel is marked ‘Pat March 28 1871’. The underside of the barrel is numbered ‘8625’. It has a sheathed trigger, brass blade fore sight and grooved frame rear sight. The undamaged ornate gutta percha grips are in excellent condition. The single action only firing action works correctly and the cylinder can be removed for speed loading. The pistol is contained in its later fitted wood case with hinged lid and lock (key absent). The case has a void brass plate applied to the centre of the lid. The inside of the case is lined with blue felt & has compartments for the pistol & accessories which consist of: a wood handled steel screwdriver and a brass oil container with removable lid and integral applicator nozzle. The container is marked ‘Perfect Pocket Oiler’. The inside of the lid has a paper trade label ‘Collins Gun & Pistol Repository London’. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique obsolete calibre revolver no licence is required to own this pistol in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 17717
