Victorian C 1850 Highly Decorated Indian 'Campaign Bring Back' Fighting Shield. Sn 13494 - 13494
This is a highly decorated Victorian C1850's Indian fighting shield. The shield is most probably a 'Campaign Bring Back' item. The shield is hand made from steel and has a flared rim to deflect sword and knife tips. The shield is very ornately decorated and still shows signs of red and brown paint around the rim and brown paint in the centre. The outside of the shield is decorated all over with engravings depicting Indian figures in various poses. Around the rim it is decorated with foliage and coloured red and brown. In the centre is has four symmetrically placed 2" steel bosses.On the inside it has two metal rings secured to two bolts. It measures 14 3/4" in diameter. This is a very well decorated shield.
