INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an unfired 1944 dated, WW2 German 20mm High Explosive/Trace (HE/T) self-destroying round for the German 2cm Flak 30 and 38 anti-aircraft guns. Although these guns were originally used as anti-aircraft guns, they could be used to great effect in close support ground fire. The round has a brown lacquered steel percussion primed cartridge case. The brass percussion primer is unfired and has a red annulus. The round is headstamped avt ( Silva-Metallwerke GmbH, div. of Polte, Magdeburg) 44 (1944 date) 104 and waffenampt 468. The high explosive tracer projectile has had a quarter section taken out of it to show its inner of the projectile including the flame channel from the tracer element to the high explosive to initiate the self-destruction if the projectile. The projectile is stamped above the iron driving band nct 1d 44 (1944 date). The projectile is fitted with an alloy AZ49 nose fuze which is stamped round its circumference AZ49 czx (Brennabor Werke AG, Brandenburg) waffenampt 288.
