INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an extremely rare complete packet of 10 paper cartridges for the British Enfield Rifle used in the British Army from 1853. The cartridges are in remarkable good condition with no cracking to the paper wraps on the cartridges. The cartridge paper used is all white, pink or and mixture of pink and white. The top of the paper cartridge where the bullet is packed is closed by means of a dye to make a hollow dimple. The top is twisted round to contain the black powder. The outer paper wrapper is of a buff stiff paper and is printed on the front 10 CARTRIDGES FOR ENFIELD RIFLE. .577 BORE BULLET ’55 POWDER 2 ½ DRS. ___ MANUFACTURED BY ELEY BROS. LD LONDON. This is all within a printed black square on the front of the packet. The outer wrapper still has its original khaki closure string.
