INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an excellent, original, WW2, 1943 dated Mills No.36M MK 1, hand grenade. The 36M refers to the pattern of Grenade 36 M originally 'Mesopotania' and the fact they were waterproofed. The steel base plug is marked 'No 36M MK 1 43 (1943 date) and the letter S within a hexagonal monogram cast into it. The cast iron body has M (Maxwells Ltd., St. Marys. Ontario) cast into the front. The body has a steel filling plug. The grenades body has some traces of red and green paint on the sides. The fly off lever has black paint on it and is stamped FW (Frost and Woods, Canada). The alloy primer holder has cast into it the letter S within a hexagonal monogram, 3 Z (Zinc) 1943 (1943 date).
