~ British Infantry Officers Sword 1897 Pattern ~
Here we have a British George V infantry officers sword of the 1897 pattern.
It is still the regulation sword for British line infantry officers today and they were produced in large numbers especially during WW1.
The blade is a steel straight-bladed and has decoration etched on both sides and the George V monogram.
The basket hilt gives good protection to the hand three quarter basket steel with pierced and engraved scrolling foliate decoration it has the royal cypher of the reigning monarch set over the lower knuckle bow. The grip is wire-bound shagreen.
The sword comes with its leather scabbard and frog.
The blade is marked London made on the ricasso.

The sword has a diameter of 38.5 inches (98 cm)
The scabbard has a diameter of 33.8 inches (86 cm)
It weighs 1.12 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in a good condition with no damage and some signs of wear from age. The blade is very good apart from a few minor rust spots. The scabbard is in good order.
