    Victorian C1860 English Police Constabulary .65" Bore Percussion Belt Pistol By Hiatt, Birmingham To Hyde Division (Cheshire County) Weapon Number 2. Sn 13228 - 13228

    In the Autumn of 1856 as a result of the County and Borough Police Act 1856. Cheshire Justices were obliged to establish a paid Police Force for the whole of each County area including Hyde which at that formed part of Cheshire. In 1899 Hyde established its own Constabulary. In 1947 Hyde became part of the Cheshire Constabulary and now forms part of the Greater Manchester Policing area. Hiatt of Birmingham were renowned makers of early Police handcuffs. This excellent Constabulary percussion belt pistol made C1860 marked to Hyde Division is marked 'Hiatt’ (J.G. Hiatt, Birmingham). It is 13 inches overall with a 7 inch .65" Bore octagonal barrel. The Walnut furniture is a nice deep brown with chequered grip and steel furniture & is undamaged. It has its original captive steel ram rod and steel belt bar. The side plate, grip strap and trigger guard with acanthus bud finial have foliate engraved decoration & the side plate is marked 'Hiatt'. The top of the barrel is faintly marked ’Hyde Division No.2’. It has a bead fore sight & sliding safety catch feature. The action functions perfectly. As an antique percussion pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a display or collection. Price includes UK delivery. Sn 13228
