A lovely 12 bore percussion fowling piece by historic London maker James Wilkinson .This is the Wilkinson Of "Sword" fame , son in law of the great innovator Henry Nock , who took over the business upon Nock's death . It is a conversion , circa 1835 (with new breech ) from flintlock , originally being made circa 1810 . 32" twist barrel , top quality lock in excellent order with very strong mainspring and working particularly crisply .Paktong insert to strengthen wood where flintlock pan sat . The bore , while not shiny is good for the age and the breech is particularly hefty. Nicely figured walnut half stock in solid order . Good border and scroll engraving with pineapple finial and gold escutcheon at the wrist .Nice aged patina and strong traces of original colours . The current Wilkinson company hold the original sales ledger for this serial number range and for £20 , will supply a copy of the page.Very good value indeed at £495. Can be viewed /collected Tooting SW London or posted UK for £15
