John Lyell was a Scottish gunmaker recorded as working at 128 Union Street, Aberdeen C1874. The Company became John Lyell & Co C1878 (see page 278 of British Gunmakers Vol.2 by Brown). This pin fire shotgun by John Lyell has 30 ½” 2 stage steel barrel and measures 46 ¾” overall. The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. It has its original walnut stock with chequered panel wrist and steel butt plate. The underside of the wrist is inlaid with a void silver escutcheon. The action has foliate engraving to the action plate and breech block. The action plate is signed by the maker ‘John Lyell’. The inside of the breech has a black powder proof mark. The trigger guard tang is numbered ‘1537’. It is under lever break action and the weapon cocks & dry fires as it should. The shotgun has a brass bead foresight. The price includes UK delivery.
