WW1 1917 U.S. Military Henry Diston & Sons Design, Trench/ Fighting Knife By L.F. & C (Landers Frary & Clark) With Theatre Improvised Scabbard Made From Section Of Bayonet Scabbard. Sn 14511 - 14511

In 1917 several designs were submitted to the U.S. Ordnance Department for a new fighting knife. The design by Henry Diston & Sons, Philadelphia was chosen over others (see page 117 of United States Military Knives by Silvey & Boyd where an LFC example is illustrated). This is an original example of the Diston design Model 1917 Trench/ Fighting Knife. The blade is a simple but effective blackened 9” triangular spike (14” overall) secured to a contoured walnut grip with finger contours. The edges of the steel knuckle bow bears a row of pressed pyramid shaped steel knuckles. The grip also has a pyramid steel pommel nut. The guard of the bow is crisply stamped 'US L.F&C (Landers Frary & Clark) 1917". The field improvised scabbard is made from the lower section of an original WW1 bayonet scabbard (most likely a model 1913 or 1917 pattern bayonet scabbard). The scabbard has a rear seam and retains its original steel chape and original green paint. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 14511
