SUPERB**MINT BORE** Victorian 1863 British Officer’s Private Purchase LA Co (London Armoury Company) Snider .577 Obsolete Centre Fire Calibre 3 Band Rifle Trigger Guard Engraved To B.W. Wild With Nipple Protector & Chain. Sn 18196:2 - 18196:2
The Snider action was introduced to British service in the mid 1800’s and muzzle loading Enfield Carbines were converted to allow the use of the .577 calibre brass cartridge. They remained in use until the Martini Henry was introduced. This is an original British Officer’s Private Purchase .577 Snider Patent 3 band rifle by LA Co (The London Armoury Company) in superb condition. This Snider rifle has a 36 ½” round steel barrel with near mint bore, clean & bright with crisp rifling. The barrel has been professionally re-blued to a high standard at some point in its life & has inspection / proof marks. The metal work has even patina throughout. It has a brass butt plate, fore end block & trigger guard which has period engraved name ‘B.W. Wild’ most likely the name of the British officer who owned this rifle. The trigger guard tang is also stamped ‘H.B.R’ most likely a factory inspector’s mark. The original wood is undamaged with just bumps, knocks and bruises to be expected. The wood has a crisp 1869 LA Co roundel. The action plate is marked ’LA Co’ together with ‘1863’ date & crisp Crown VR mark (Victoria Regina). The breech has proof/ inspection marks together with ‘Snider Patent’ marks. The breech has a steel cover correctly with locking catch. The action is strong and works as it should. It has brass chain with nipple protector, sling swivels, cleaning rod, fixed foresight and adjustable rear ladder sight. The price for this excellent piece includes UK delivery. NB As an antique, obsolete calibre weapon no licence is required to own this weapon in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 18196:2
