MINT, C1840, English Laird's Patent .44" Bore, Transitional 6 Shot Bar Hammer Percussion Revolver. Sn 12793 - 12793
This is a near mint transitional percussion revolver made C1840. It is 11 ¼” overall length with a rifled 4 ¼” octagonal barrel which is .44" at the muzzle opening. The barrel has a small blade fore sight. It has finely chequered walnut grips and decorative engraving to both sides of the case hardened action, trigger guard, top of the bar hammer and steel butt plate. The pistol retains its original finish. Although there are no manufacturer or patent markings on this revolver it is no doubt a transitional Laird’s Patent piece (J. W. Laird, Gunmaker listed in the 1849 Birmingham Gunmakers Register at 10 Steelhouse Lane Birmingham). The barrel and cylinder are stamped with proof/ inspection marks. Its firing mechanism works perfectly. The price for this excellent transitional revolver includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion weapon no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 12793
