RARE, Early 1900's Heavyweight Militia 'The Ansonia' .177 Calibre, Break Action Air Rifle By Langenham, Thuringia, Germany & E.Anson & Co Birmingham. Sn 10709 10709

Heavyweight Militia Model Air Rifles were produced from C1901 by Friedrich Langenham, Zella Steert, Blasii, Thuringia, Germany. Militia rifles were imported into England and reworked & Sold by English manufacturers/ retailers until 1939 including the Birmingham Firm E. Anson & Co (see page 160 of A Collector's Guide To Air Rifles By Hiller). The break action of these air rifles was performed by depression of the thumb operated lever located on the left side of the frame. As is common with most Anson reworked rifles the thumb button of the lever is chequered. The lever is stamped 'Anson's Bolt Action'. It has a 17" .177 Calibre octagonal rifled barrel which is clean. The rifle measures 41 1/2" overall. It's metal work and wood stock with steel butt plate is original and undamaged with even patina throughout. The top of the barrel is stamped 'The Ansonia Rifled Barrel'. It has fixed fore & rear sights. The trigger block is stamped 'The Ansonia' on both sides. The stock has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and use and is nicely marked 'E. Anson & Co 14 Steel house Lane Birm'. The top edge of the stock is fitted with a void white metal oval disc. The cocking, loading & firing actions work as they should. Price for this rare nicely marked Air Rifle includes UK delivery.
