~ Late 19th Or Early 20th Century Maasai Seme Short Sword ~
Here we have a beautiful long knife/short sword from the Maasai of Kenya. This sword called the Seme is the personal sidearm of every Maasai warrior that they would use for everything from bush clearance, food preparation and most importantly cattle raiding or self defence.
The blade is a short spatulated blade, sharpened on both edges down to the grip, there is no guard or bolster and then a very utilitarian wood and skin grip. The blade has been roughly ground out of a flexible steel.
The blade comes with a hide sheath with thick stitching and a simple belt loop cut out the back.
Overall a brilliant item in incredible condition for a collector of ethnographic weapons or blades in general.
