~ M1917 Pattern Remington Bayonet ~
This bayonet is a Remington made M1917, the last sword bayonet used by the US military. This variant was made to fit the M1917 Enfield, affectionately known as the ‘American Enfield’ and all the trench shotguns of the period.
The bayonet design is copied for the British P1907 bayonet with some minor changes including a shorter blade length and a slightly different guard.
This sword bayonet saw use until the mid 70’s and was phased out totally after the Vietnam War.
This bayonet is in very good order and despite signs of use good condition. It comes with its original sheath.
The markings on the ricasso are the Remington makers mark, ‘1917’ and the reverse marked with U.S. and the standard markings for Remington.
~ Dimensions ~
The bayonet and sheath weigh 815 grams, the bayonet alone 525 grams.
The blade is 16 ½ inches ( 42 cm) long.
The bayonet in its sheath altogether are 23 inches (59 cm) long.
~ Condition ~
The bayonet is in very good condition for its age.
There is one nick on the blade as pictured.
The wood has some scratches but it has worn smooth with age.
The blade has some darkening of the steel.
The sheath is still supple and in good condition with some wear to the leather strap that holds the handle in the sheath.
