WW2 Australian 1942 8th Army 1907 Bayonet And Scabbard. BAYO 546 - BAYO 546
This is an excellent Australian, WW2 1942 dated Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle complete with scabbard. The blade of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer MA 1907 (the code for Lithgow) and 2 42 (February 1942). The other side of the blade carries broad arrows and inspection stamps including an X which is a bend test mark which signified that the blade steel temper was within specification. The wooden grips are stamped SLAZ41 (Slazenger Sports Goods, 1941). The blade retains all of its bluing and the crossguard, grips and pommel retain some of its sand coloured paint as used in North Africa with the 8th Army ' Desert Rats'. The bayonet is complete with its original early type steel mounted leather scabbard with a figured locket, chape and teardrop frog stud. These also retain a large proportion of original khaki paint. See Skennerton item A10 on pages 276 – 277. This is a nice WW2 Australian bayonet that has obviously seen desert use. All stitching and leather of the scabbard are intact. Price for this excellent nicely marked Australian, Lithgow, Bayonet with Scabbard includes UK delivery. BAYO 546
