This is an excellent WW1 1916 dated Short Magazine SMLE No.1 Mk III* .303 calibre rifle. The rifle has all original woodwork throughout and nice clear date & manufacturer's stamps, "GR" (George Rex) with Crown, Enfield 1916, SHT L.E III*. The stock has an inlaid void brass disc. It is complete with stripper clip loading bridge, winged fore sight and adjustable rear sight with wing protectors. It also has a brass butt plate with trap and original webbing sling. Deactivated to early UK / EU specification in 2016 the rifle cocks & dry fires and the magazine can be removed. The rifle is serial number U7767 which is stamped on the grip strap, muzzle cap & under the rear sight. The bolt has un-matching number. The rifle comes with an original Pattern 1907 bayonet complete with scabbard. The ricasso of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer 'Wilkinson Pall Mall' and King’s Crown together with ‘10 ’18 (October 1918 date). The reverse is stamped with WD inspection marks. The blade and its slab wood grips are undamaged. One grip has a small impressed ordnance inspection mark. It has its original steel mounted leather scabbard.
