The nickel plated hilt features a silhouette of an eagle head and at the bottom there is a quillon which goes upward into a teardrop.
The grip plates that separate these two pieces are of black checkered Bakelite. These Bakelite grips are retained by two steel rivets.
The scabbard is black with gold lettering, though a large amount of it has faded away.
This piece would likely be have been used as a letter opener.
An interesting and practical piece.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade measuring 5.5 inches (14 cm), the dagger has a overall length of 9 inches (22.9 cm), 9.2 inches (23.4 cm) when in scabbard. It weighs 100 g.
~ Condition ~
The blade is scratched with signs of degrading to the lower end. The pommel shows signs of rust. The scabbard is scratched but with no chipping. The letters that were once on the front of the scabbard have worn away.
