An antique Japanese O’Tanto / Ko-Wakizashi. The weapon has been assessed by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg. His hand written notes and blade drawings accompany the sword. In extracts from his notes he states “Big & Wide has width of a katana. It has a cutting edge of 12 ¾”. The tang is unsigned with 2 mounting holes. Tang shape altered for remounting in past possibly been Mino work or Soshu. Looks to be Circa 1700-1850. In old 20th century polish. Hamon is Suguha with small irregularities edged in fine Nie crystals goes fuzzy towards point. The blade is marred by large kizu / flaw on one side and another on back of Mune. Plain iron 19th century tsuba with satsuma Rebellion munition quality hilt circa 1870’s. Old blades were taken out of storage and mounted quickly during the Rebellion in the Meiji restoration of the 1870’s. A sword for a new student / collector”. The price includes UK delivery.
