Japanese Early Edo Period C1650-1750 Mino School Work Wakizashi Short Sword, Iron Tsuba & Scabbard With Expert Assessment Notes. Sn 17775:16 - 17775:16
An antique Japanese Wakizashi short sword. The Wakizashi has been assessed by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg. His hand written notes and blade drawings accompany the sword. In extracts from his notes he states “This is an early Edo period blade unsigned looks 1650 to 1750 Mino school work. Total length is 16 ½”, cutting edge is 12 ¼”. It is out of polish, dark with old rust can vaguely see a midareba (broken line) hamon. Needs polishing to bring out details. Looks healthy cannot see any Kizu (flaws). Mounted in black saya with old label (faded) with kanji written on (not translated). Iron tsuba 19th century with incised bark pattern. Shakudo fuchi / kashira (hilt mounts) obscure soft metal menuki. Hilt needs re-binding. Good quality double collar (habaki). A restoration project”. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 17775:16
