The MK I designation was changed to MK I* in 1942 after modifications to the bolt housing (see page 342 of The British Service Lee by Skennerton). The woodwork and metal work of this weapon are in excellent condition with just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use The shoulder stock is deeply stamped with a New Zealand War Dept Stamp 'N arrow Z'. The left side of the breech is crisply stamped 'No 4 MK I* Long Branch (Stevens Savage, Long Branch ) 1942' together with other markings which appear to read ‘Sarco Inc Stirling N’ (illustrated). The grip strap is stamped with a struck out number and number '18L0475'. It has an alloy butt plate with trap and is fitted with an original webbing sling. Deactivated to UK/EU specification in 2020 the rifle’s bolt and trigger move and the magazine can be removed.
