QUALITY, C1800 Cased Pair Of Nock, London 50 Bore Flintlock Traveling Belt Pistols With Screw Off Barrels, Folding Sprung Bayonets & Accessories. Sn 16822 - 16822

Henry Nock (1741–1804) was a British inventor and engineer of the Napoleonic period, best known as a gunsmith. As well as supplying the military and civilian markets, Nock made expensive pieces for the aristocracy and Royalty and was an appointed gun maker to the King. Nock's business eventually became Wilkinson Sword. This is an excellent pair of steel framed flintlock traveling belt pistols by Nock London. Each pistol measures 7 ¾” overall (bayonet closed) and have 2 ½” screw off steel barrels. The barrel’s smooth bores have staining and residue consistent with age and use. The actions are signed ‘Nock’ within banners & arms on the left side partially obscured their steel belt bars and the right ‘London’ within arms and banners. The underside of their frames & barrels have crisp proofs. They have steel swan neck hammers fitted with flints, sliding safety bolt features and steel trigger guards. The pistol barrels are fitted with 1 ¾” long folding triangular section bayonet blades. Each bayonet block has a sprung steel release button to allow the bayonet to fold into the closed position. When closed the tip of the bayonet fits into a notch in the front of the trigger guard. The bayonet is released and flicks open by pulling the trigger guard to the rear. The pistol’s bag shaped wood grips are undamaged and are mounted with void diamond shaped escutcheons. The pistols cock and dry fire as they should. The pistols are complete with wood case. The case with hinged lid measures 14” x 8 ¾” x 2 ¼”. The centre of the exterior of the lid is inlaid with void brass disc which is in the centre of inlaid brass foliate decoration. The corner edges of the lid have protective brass plates. The front of the case has its original lock (key absent). The inside of the case is lined with green material & contoured to snugly fit the pistols and their accessories. The compartments contain: a steel bullet mould, a copper & brass powder flask & a screwdriver tool with ebony handle. The price for this quality pair of cased flintlock pistols by a famous maker includes UK delivery. NB As antique flintlock pistols no licence is required to own them in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 16822...Read full description
