RARE, ONE OF 150, WW2 British 2nd Pattern B2 WD Fairbairn Sykes FS Commando Fighting Knife Returned To Stores Post WW2, Re-Designated FR693 & Re-Issued To The Royal Marine Commandos As Part Of A Wilkinson Admiralty Contract With Scabbard. Sn 17049 - 17049

2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941 (see page 89-93 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). In his book pages 165 & 167 there is a reference to a quantity of knives being supplied to the Admiralty by Wilkinson contract in 1964 for Royal Marine Commando issue stamped ‘FR693’. He also states that even though Wilkinson supplied these knives in 1964 its origins go back to at least 1955 and possibly earlier. It is of note that the contract was for 150 knives and scabbards. Our 2nd pattern FS fighting knife was most likely issued during WW2 with B2 WD arrow designation, returned to stores at the end of the war, then re-designated with the stores code ‘FR693’ and re-issued as part of the Admiralty Royal Marine Commando contract. The knife has an undamaged blackened brass 2nd pattern hilt. The hilt is stamped with ‘FR693’ stores code. The top of the blackened steel cross guard is stamped with War Dept 'B2' and WD broad arrow designation. It has a clean, 172mm long double edged blued steel blade with medial ridge. It is complete with original scabbard with external blackened brass chape. It retains its original 4 sewn on leather tabs & elastic retaining strap. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 17049
