An Original German WW2 1939 dated belt buckle and 75mm leather tab. The buckle has "Gott mit uns" (meaning God with us) stamped on the front with the 'Eagle and Swastika' over a laurel wreath. 'Gott Mit Uns' is a phrase commonly used on armour in the German military from the German Empire to the end of the Third Reich. During the Second World War Wehrmacht soldiers wore this slogan on their belt buckles, as opposed to members of the Waffen SS, who wore the motto Meine Ehre heißt Treue ('My honour is loyalty'). The alloy buckle is in perfect condition and on the reverse it has the swivel pins and belt loop for fastening the belt. The buckle has a 75mm long fold over leather tab which is stamped with "Ludenscheid 1939" inside an oval (see the second photograph). The stitching on the leather is tab is all present and secure.
