Edwardian British 1897 Pattern Presentation Infantry Officer’s Sword By A.G. Parker Birmingham With Etched Blade To ‘Presented To Lieut J. Shirlaw By The Officers & Men Of C & D Companies 6th V.B Royal Highlanders Kirkcaldy 16th March 1904’ & Scabbard. Sn 18301 - 18301

This is an original 1897 British Infantry officer’s presentation sword. These swords were a great improvement on previous patterns with better protection to the hand through its ¾ basket hilt (see page 179 of World Swords by Withers & pages 165-167 of Swords of the British Army by Robson). The sword has an 81cms long single edged plated blade with partial fullers (96cms overall). The ricasso has a very faint manufacturer name which appears to ‘A.G. Parker Birmingham’ (to faint to photograph). The reverse has the ordnance acceptance ‘proof’ star. Both sides of the blade have etched panels featuring foliate panels, the Kings crown, heraldic devices & Royal Cypher ‘ER VII’ (Edward VII Rex). One side has an etched panel ‘Presented To Lieut J. Shirlaw By The Officers & Men Of C & D Companies 6th V.B Royal Highlanders Kirkcaldy 16th March 1904’. It has the correct ¾ bowl guard pierced with foliate design and Royal Cypher ‘ER VII’. It has the correct fish skin grip with wire binding which is tight and intact. The sword is complete with its plated steel scabbard which has 2 hanging rings and shoe. The price for this sword worthy of further research regarding the named Officer’s military service includes UK delivery. Sn 18301
