These Persian helmets were worn throughout the 17th century & 19th centuries. Examples of these helmets similar in form to our 19th century piece are illustrated on page 398 of ‘A Glossary Of Arms & Armour ‘ by Stone. The bowl shaped steel helmet has ornate foliate decoration to the skull, rim, typical spiked top and 2 plume holders. Our example has a hinged holder for single removable nose guard which is absent (some examples have been seen with 3 prong nose guards and additional plume holder in place of spike, see page 399 of Stone’s book). The bowl has no dents and the silver decoration is crisp. The helmet has its original chain mail guard protecting the face and is correctly long at the back to protect the neck. It is approx. UK size 7 ½. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 16742
