Description

Scarce British 1858 Pattern Lancaster Sword Bayonet To The Medical Staff Corps, Scabbard and Buff Frog. Sn 14258 - 14258

This is a scarce 1858 Pattern Lancaster bayonet. It has the later leaf spring attachment of a screw instead of a rivet as on the earlier models. The distinctive pipe back blade carries the makers name of "R & W Aston of Birmingham" together with an inspection stamp. There is also an inspection stamp on the top edge of the blade. The brass pommel carries the numbers "2. 96" over "M.S.C." (Medical Staff Corps) and "5241". This denotes usage by the Medical Staff Corps (Later the Royal Army Medical Corps). The mouth of the brass mounted Leather scabbard carries the letter "M" and the number "277". The buff leather 1882 pattern frog also carries the stamp to the rear of "M MSC 102". (See Bayonet Belt Frogs Part 1 by Anthony Carter item 61 pages 18 & 19 and Skennerton's item B160 pages 121-124). A very good scarce complete set to M.S.C. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 14258
