~ A Rare 19th Century Indian Patah Gauntlet Sword from Bundi ~
The piece has a double edge long, steel blade and pierced gauntlet hilt. The large heavy hilt guards the fist and wrist. There is a steel hinged strap which holds the arm rigid to the patah and enables it to be swung with control. The upper end of the blade has a reinforcing steel sheet on one side.
There are a few tiny areas of gilding remaining. Given these remnants and the sheer size of the blade, it would be a ceremonial piece.
~ Dimensions ~
The piece is 57 inches (145cm) long with the blade measuring 47.5 inches (121cm). The total weight is approx. 1.6 kg.
~ Condition ~
The guard has a crack to one side but it is stable. The blade is slightly out of true near the tip.
~ Postage ~
