Mortimer of London Circa 1780 -1820. The side-plate engraved "H. W. MORTIMER LONDON" to one side and "GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY" to the other. Nice drop down folding trigger, screw off barrel. London proof marks to the underside of the breech. Good working order and condition. Overall length of pistol is 6 inches. This maker was at exactly the right period in history to have made his weapons for use during the Napoleonic Wars of circa 1803-1815 as well as for the era of the American Revolutionary war C.1775-1783 This is the type of pistol that would have been carried in a pocket or a saddle bag during the late 18th century by a gentleman, traveller, or officer as a personal protection weapon.
