The hand guard is a large round plain iron guard. The pommel is brass. No scabbard. Blade is 41 inches long. The single edged blade is approximately 3 inches wide at its widest point. Very good condition. An extremely large and rare type quite possibly made for execution or ceremonial occasions. Very probably brought back to Great Britain from CHINA by a serving Military officer after the Boxer Rebellion circa 1899-1901. Overall length 50 inches. Ref 1819.
