Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 1911. A fine Remington .41 rim-fire double barrelled over and under Derringer pistol. Circa 1875-1885. Marked on the top of barrel Remington Arms Co. Ilion. N.Y. The barrels and frame still retaining almost all of the original nickel plated finish. One small area of plating worn near the muzzle where it most probably rubbed against a holster. Chequered grips. Because of its small size and ease of concealment it became very popular with gentlemen who felt the need for a small defensive handgun. It was often carried by travellers, gamblers and was also well liked by women who wanted an easily concealable gun that could fit in a fur muff or handbag. Out in the wild west, they filled the need of gamblers of the day and gunfighters who needed a backup hand gun. It was easy to employ from its hidden location in a boot top or vest pocket. According to Capt. Joseph Bourke who was an 1880’s Arizona lawman, he packed as many as ten small derringers secreted on his person at a time. In good condition retaining most of its original nickel plated finish. Good working action. Overall length approx 5 inches. Ref 1911. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card. Established 1968.
