Manufactured in 1860. The 7.5 inch octagonal barrel marked ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. All matching serial numbers apart from the wedge which does not have one. In the year 1860, Colt produced 5,000 Model 1851 Navy Revolvers from the serial numbers 93,000 to over 97,000. The serial number of this gun is 94740, putting it in the first two thousand manufactured by Colt in that year. The frame is marked COLTS PATENT. Two piece wooden grips. The Naval engagement scene clearly visible on the cylinder. Overall length approx 13.5 inches. In excellent condition retaining much of it's original finish. Good working action. In the United States, Colt added a night shift at his Hartford, Connecticut, factory to meet domestic demand for his guns. While the Pocket models and mighty Dragoon remained popular, it was the Navy that captured the imagination of California gold-seekers, Western emigrants and those determined to settle on frontier lands rife with buffalo and hostile Indians. It also became a favorite of guerrilla bands during the US Civil War. Many carried spare loaded cylinders and extra Colts in their belts, giving them massive firepower when raiding or attacking.This is an authentic American percussion revolver that was most likely used during the American Civil War.
