Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2270. An American Civil War era Colt 1862 Police .36 cal percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1863. (serial number verifies the year of manufacture). The 6.5 inch barrel engraved ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Marked PAT SEPT 10th 1850 on the fluted cylinder. Stamped on the frame Colt's patent and .36 Cal. All matching serial numbers including the wedge. British proof marks on the barrel and cylinder. The 1862 Police was the last handgun designed under Samuel Colt's personal direction. The Police model came out in late 1861 and Sam Colt passed away on the 10th of January 1862 at the age of 47. Between 1861 and 1873, the company built 28,000 1862 model Police revolvers. Several thousand of these police model pistols which were produced late in the run were converted to fire .38 caliber cartridges by the factory and therefore that is the reason why it is harder to find a standard Police revolver in percussion. A small crack in the frame with some blemishes otherwise in good overall condition. Good working action. Overall length is approx 12 inches. A scarce colt 1862 police model manufactured right in the middle of the American civil war. Ref 2270. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
