A rare and possibly historic English brass barrelled Flintlock pistol made by ASTON and engraved to a famous English naval Captain - Capt. Thos Dundas. Circa 1775-1810. The brass lock plate engraved with the makers name Aston. 9 inch brass barrel stamped with two London proof marks. The barrel engraved on top "Capt. Thos Dundas, H.M.S. NAIAD". The engraving now worn. (HMS Naiad was a Royal Navy frigate that served in the Napoleonic Wars. She was built by Hall and Co. at Limehouse on the Thames, launched in 1797, and commissioned in 1798. She served in the Napoleonic Wars, and was commanded by Capt Thomas Dundas at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.) Brass butt-plate, trigger guard and two brass ramrod pipes. Complete with its wooden ramrod. Action in good working order. An old repaired crack through the wrist and some minor blemishes & scratches to the woodwork, in well used condition. Overall length 15 inches. This is a rare and interesting British pistol and almost certainly was carried during a very famous Naval battle. Ref 2334.
