The brass pipe-bowl terminating in a V shape at each side where it joins the axe socket. The blade with raised decoration of 4 stars and a moon. The wood shaft has a shaped mouth-piece to one end and panels of incised decoration overall. It is wrapped with three sections of copper wire, and has a lovely aged patina. The whole tomahawk is in very good condition. Quite possibly a ceremonial piece, these pipe-tomahawks were highly regarded by the North American Indians and were often taken from them as souvenirs in the early pioneer days of the USA. Overall length approx 21.5 inches. Guaranteed completely original. Probably 19th Century. The blade length is approx 7.5 inches. Ref 2534.
