Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2804. A scarce English Percussion bar hammer 6 shot Pepper box revolver. Circa 1840-1850. The percussion pepper-box was invented around the 1830s and was intended for civilian use but military officers often made private purchases for their own use. They are known to have been carried during the Crimean war of 1854-1856. James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart (1833-1864) was a U.S. Army officer and later a Major General and cavalry commander for the Confederate States of America during the Civil War (1861-65). In 1857 he was shot in the chest at point blank range with a pepper-box by a Cheyenne warrior, Stuart survived probably due rumour has it, to a very weak powder charge. Pepper-box revolvers were also carried during the American civil war 1861-1865. Case hardened frame. Decorative engraving to the trigger guard and bar hammer. Finely chequered two-piece grips. 3 inch barrels stamped with British proof marks. In good condition showing hardly any sign of use or wear and retaining much original finish. Action in good working order. Overall length 8 inches. Ref 2804. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card. Established 1968.
