A rare British high ranking officer's Mameluke sword with ivory grips, almost certainly made as a presentation sword. It was apparently never presented as the presentation panel for the intended etched inscription is still un-inscribed.
The gilt brass cross-guard set to both sides with an embossed generals badge of crossed batons within a wreath, and with ivory grips secured with 4 gilt brass rosettes. The blade is etched full length on both sides and is like new condition. Complete in its correct steel scabbard with two steel hanging rings. Highly polished blade with a spear point and cut back edge. Blade length is 33 inches. Overall length in scabbard is 38 inches. Few minor blemishes to the scabbard bottom and one chip to the ivory grip at the bottom where it meets the cross-guard (please see photos), otherwise in extremely good overall condition. The blade is mint. Complete with its original wire sword knot. A rare sword. Ref 2838.
