Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3027. very rare Main-Gauche or left hand dagger, probably English Civil war era circa 1640-1650. Down-drooping cross-guards fitted with an integral side-ring counter guard. The blade with armour-piercing diamond section point. Unusual silver inlay at the riccasso on both sides of the blade. (We believe that this strange pattern in the silver inlay may be some kind of code used at the time by the Royalists to show support for the king ?) Ovoid pommel. Grip still retains its original iron re-enforcing bands running full length down the grip, held on by iron studs. In very good condition. Blade length 10 inches struck with a large figure 4. Length 15 inches overall. This is an exceptional Main-Gauche dagger. If you collect rapiers and want just one fine left-hand dagger for your collection this is quite possibly the one to buy.
