This is a genuine tinder lighter of the type used by early settlers and travellers during the 1750's-1800 era. It is mounted upon a steel foot with external main spring. The tinder that was used was usually open weave flax or other material that would be easily combustible, this was kept dry within the frame of the pistol. The top-plate engraved HAAS NEUSTADT above an engraved head. The frame is fitted with a brass door that swings open to the side to reveal the inner cavity where the flax was kept. Some dings and scratches otherwise in good condition and in working condition. Length 8 inches. Ref 3074. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
