The flask depicts Judith and her female servant holding a basket containing the beheaded Holofernes. Judith was a beautiful widow who was in danger of having her home destroyed in the city of Bethulia by Holofernes who was an Assyrian general. The general's desires for Judith enabled her to enter his tent and when the general was overcome with drink and had passed out Judith decapitates Holofernes. Two brass mounts to the bottom of the flask. Iron charger with two matching carrying rings. In very good condition. Overall length 8 inches. The carving of superb quality. Ref 3080.
