Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3153. A very rare British Military Flintlock Brown Bess Musket engraved GRICE and dated 1762. This is one of the earliest produced muskets and is engraved on the lock-plate with G. R. & crown, GRICE 1762. These are very rare items to find with a date and with the early length barrel as most had the barrel cut-down to 39 inches during their working life in the eighteenth century. This is the exact model that was carried by British forces before and during the American Revolutionary Wars circa 1776 - 1783, as well as throughout the Peninsular wars against Napoleon Bonaparte. Some genuine wear and minor damage but overall in good condition. The barrel struck twice at the breech with the makers mark IG. & two London proof marks. (please see photo.) Four brass ramrod pipes, early style long side-plate, the shaped escutcheon is engraved 111 over 36 (unclear). It has lost half an inch off the length, otherwise this is a nice honest untouched example. Barrel length 41.5 inches. Overall length 58 inches. Complete with iron ramrod. Ref 3153. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
