A rare fully decorated iron Main-Gauche or left hand dagger, manufactured in Toledo in the late nineteenth century. This type were a copy of an earlier Spanish piece and these are are often dated c. 1870-1880. The originals were made circa 1660-1700. Straight cross-guard with solid rounded finials. The unusual blade with a scalloped back edge and pierced with two holes at the forte. Blade is approx 12 inches long with etching for the full length, the etching decorated with a gold ground. Engraved FABRICA DE TOLEDO at the forte. Iron sail-shaped guard decorated with floral motifs. Decorated iron pommel. Grip wire is all complete. Showing some signs of genuine wear otherwise in very good condition. Complete in its original leather scabbard (bottom chape is missing). Length 16 inches overall in scabbard.
